Announcing the FPWC 2023-2024 Annual Report: Building Sustainable Wellness for the Mental Wellness Workforce and Communities

August 29, 2024

We are thrilled to announce the release of the First Peoples Wellness Circle (FPWC) 2023-2024 Annual Report, now available on our website. This year’s report, themed “Building Sustainable Wellness for the Mental Wellness Workforce and Communities,” highlights the progress, partnerships, and projects that FPWC has undertaken to support and strengthen the mental wellness workforce across First Nations, Inuit, and Métis communities.

Throughout the 2023-2024 fiscal year, FPWC has continued to empower the Mental Wellness Workforce with the tools, resources, and support necessary to meet growing mental wellness needs. Our report outlines the implementation of the Workforce Wellness Strategy, the expansion of support to the IRS Resolution Health Support Program (RHSP) workforce, and our ongoing efforts to address anti-Indigenous racism in mental wellness systems.

Key highlights from the report include:

  • Workforce Wellness Strategy: A three-pronged approach focusing on individual, organizational, and systemic wellness, with regular training sessions to combat compassion fatigue, burnout, and vicarious trauma.
  • IRS Resolution Health Support Program: Completion of a Formative Analysis highlighting the need for equitable investment in this vital workforce, along with training to build capacity.
  • National Collaborations: Continued work on the First Nations Mental Wellness Continuum Framework, partnerships with Thunderbird Partnership Foundation, and efforts to establish a National Indigenous Mental Wellness Workforce Association.
  • Advocacy and Policy Change: Active involvement in roundtable discussions, advisory tables, and international presentations, all aimed at advancing wellness in Indigenous communities.

We invite you to read the full report to learn more about our efforts over the past year and our vision for the future. FPWC remains committed to fostering sustainable wellness for the Mental Wellness Workforce and the communities they serve.
