A Commemoration on the Third Anniversary of Joyce Echaquan’s Passing

September 28, 2023

Three years have passed, but the memory of Joyce Echaquan, a cherished mother and member of the Atikamekw community, remains present, and the fight for justice is ongoing. Her tragic loss has again highlighted the systemic racism Indigenous peoples face and the ongoing inequities in the healthcare system.

At FPWC, we are dedicated to promoting pathways to mental wellness and bridging gaps in understanding. Today, we reaffirm our efforts to challenge and remove systemic biases and move toward a future where Indigenous peoples in Canada can access culturally safe, high-quality healthcare free from discrimination.

May this anniversary be a solemn reminder of the importance of taking tangible steps toward genuine respect and understanding. We must continue advocating for a safe and equitable healthcare system.
