First Peoples Wellness Circle (FPWC) is an Indigenous-led national not-for-profit dedicated to enhancing the lives of First Peoples in Canada by addressing healing, wellness, and mental wellness barriers. The organization’s purpose is to walk with and support First Peoples and communities to share collective intelligence for healing, peace-making, and living a good life. FPWC’s approach is centred on promoting wellness pathways based on traditional knowledge and culture that supports healing and wellness and fosters a two-eyed seeing approach. FPWC’s new strategic plan encompasses four main objectives: Growth, The Framework, Relationships, and Collective Intelligence. Through these objectives, we seek to build relationships with Indigenous and non-Indigenous organizations and build workforce capacity by sharing collective intelligence and implementing the First Nations Mental Wellness Continuum Framework. The FPWC works diligently to advocate for transformative change, aiming to create wellness and whole health pathways for Canada’s First Peoples shaped by diverse Indigenous cultural lenses and knowledge.
We are currently looking to fill the position of Peer Learning Coordinator. This is a term full-time (37.5 hours per week), fully remote (within Canada) position until March 31, 2025 with possibility of extension. Our head office is located in North Bay, Ontario.
Position Summary
We are seeking a Peer Learning Coordinator to join our team. In this role, you will lead the development and implementation of a peer learning network that supports the capacity-building needs of the mental wellness workforce. You will be responsible for designing learning environments, resources, and toolkits, and delivering sessions that strengthen knowledge-sharing across communities.
This is a full-time remote position within Canada, working 37.5 hours per week.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct environmental scans and literature reviews to identify best practices in workforce peer learning networks.
- Design and deliver a peer learning program, including recommended formats such as coaching, mentoring, discussion groups, and communities of practice.
- Develop a Peer Learning Network toolkit with templates, resources, sample policies, and process documents.
- Define recruitment strategies for engaging peer mentors and coaches.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to assess learning needs and customize training materials for the Mental Wellness Workforce.
- Host sessions on resource use and peer learning processes.
- Contribute to the creation and maintenance of a master database of learning content.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of adult learning methodologies and ability to create engaging learning resources.
- Experience supporting learners across diverse learning modalities.
- Ability to collaborate with multiple stakeholders and maintain respectful relationships with First Nation, Inuit, and Métis partners.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities; self-directed and comfortable working remotely.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- High level of professionalism and ability to manage confidential information.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in education, health, or social sciences; a graduate degree is an asset.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience implementing peer learning networks or program development.
- Understanding of mental wellness services in First Nations communities.
- Experience working with Indigenous communities or in non-profit settings is an asset.
