Peer Learning Facilitator

The First Peoples Wellness Circle (FPWC) is an Indigenous-led national not-for-profit dedicated to enhancing the lives of Canada’s First Peoples by addressing healing, wellness, and mental wellness barriers. The organization’s purpose is to walk with and support First Peoples and communities to share collective intelligence for healing, peace-making, and living a good life. FPWC’s approach is centred on promoting wellness pathways based on traditional knowledge and culture that supports healing and wellness and fosters a two-eyed seeing approach. FPWC envisions a nation where our First Peoples experience wholistic health and wellness by championing diverse cultural values, beliefs, and practices.

FPWC’s new strategic plan encompasses four main objectives: Growth, The Framework, Relationships, and Collective Intelligence. Through these objectives, we seek to build relationships with Indigenous and non-Indigenous organizations and build workforce capacity by sharing collective intelligence and implementing the First Nations Mental Wellness Continuum Framework. The FPWC works diligently to advocate for transformative change, aiming to create wellness and whole health pathways for Canada’s First Peoples shaped by diverse Indigenous cultural lenses and knowledge.

We are currently looking to fill the position of Peer Learning Network Facilitator. This is a full-time (37.5 hours per week) term employment from January 6, 2025, to March 31, 2026, and is a fully remote position. Our head office is located in North Bay, Ontario.

Under the direction and supervision of the Special Projects Program Manager, the Peer Learning Network Facilitator is responsible to provide consultation, connection, facilitation and guidance to the First Nation Mental Wellness Workforce Community of Practice. The Peer Learning Network facilitator will be responsible to develop and sustain the community of practice through engagement with the First Nation Mental Wellness Workforce (FNMWW), monitoring activities and encouraging participation. Supporting the Special Projects Program Manager, the role plays an integral part in fostering and maintaining connections to meet the specific needs of the First Nation Mental Wellness Workforce.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct environmental scans to identify best practices in peer learning networks.
  • Develop engaging toolkits/resources for peer networks and communities of practice.
  • Collaborate with the Special Projects Program Manager to design and deliver workforce resources.
  • Facilitate workforce engagement sessions to identify and address learning needs.
  • Organize and prepare training materials, reports, and data analysis for resource development.
  • Coordinate focus groups, meetings, and events, ensuring efficient planning and execution.
  • Assist with managing project budgets and adhering to FPWC’s financial policies.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies and procedures while supporting operational efficiency.
  • Contribute to the continual improvement of FPWC’s programs through evaluations and feedback.
  • Foster collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Promote cultural competency by respecting and supporting Indigenous values, traditions, and diversity.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, confidentiality, and strong organizational skills in all tasks.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Education or a Bachelor’s Degree in the helping field.
  • Two (2) + years experience in program delivery and/or implementing learning networks.
  • Experience working in a First Nation community or with Indigenous groups.

What you will need to be successful

  • Understanding of peer learning networks or community of practice models.
  • Proficiency in adult learning methodologies and best practices for resource development.
  • Familiarity with the Mental Wellness Workforce, including Mental Wellness Teams and IRS RHSP.asset.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including creating engaging toolkits and training materials.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for facilitating and guiding diverse groups.
  • Effective listening and problem-solving abilities.
  • Exceptional time management, organizational, and administrative skills.
  • Proven ability to coordinate meetings, events, and stakeholder consultations.
  • Experience in project management, including budgeting and reporting.
  • Highly self-motivated and capable of working independently in a remote setting.
  • Ability to set and achieve professional goals aligned with FPWC’s vision and mission.
  • Ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong team-oriented mindset while also being comfortable taking initiative individually.
  • High level of professionalism, discretion, and ability to handle confidential information.
  • Commitment to fostering a respectful and inclusive work environment.
  • Strong knowledge of First Nation, Inuit, and Métis cultures, histories, languages, and values.
  • Ability to work respectfully and effectively within Indigenous communities and with stakeholders.
