Developed in partnership between First Peoples Wellness Circle (FPWC) and School Mental Health Ontario (SMHO), Walking Together provides culturally relevant resources designed to support Indigenous student wellness in Ontario.
Recognizing the vital importance of cultural identity within schools, this series includes three specialized toolkits (coming soon!) tailored to support:
- School Administrators
- Educators
- Parents and Caregivers
Based on community conversations with Indigenous families, these resources are designed to help build knowledge and skills to support children’s mental health. Walking Together covers five key themes:
- Building Wellness Habits with my Child: Practical strategies for supporting your child’s daily wellness.
- Supporting my child’s mental wellness by partnering with school and community: Guidance on partnering effectively with school staff and community members.
- Culture as Medicine: Approaches for nurturing spirits to foster hope, belonging, meaning, and purpose.
- Mental Health Awareness: Recognizing early warning signs and supporting children through mental health challenges.
- Wholistic Approaches: Comprehensive resources to help professionals and families support Indigenous student well-being.
We invite you to explore these materials and share them across your networks to help foster hope, purpose, meaning and belonging among Indigenous children and youth.
